It was quite an eventful weekend for the Devon ladies (as always), but captain Jackie Nesbitt was pleased to report that the team won their group and have been promoted to division 2.
"We only had four players to start with and we went down to just three when a waiter at the hotel managed to tip a pot of boiling coffee over Alison Hill! It was a very worrying time and Alison received injuries severe enough to mean she was unable to play. Friday got called off through bad weather with most matches still in the first singles. We then managed to pull off a win against Avon on Saturday despite having to concede two of the five matches due to Alison’s burns (the final match was won 11-9 in the deciding tie break so just a little nerve racking). Pippa Britton then very kindly drove down on Saturday night, having only arrived back from holiday that morning, and helped us to beat Cambridge 4-1 on Sunday. We ended up winning the group and are promoted back up to division 2."
We are happy to report that though Alison received a nasty scald, the quick tinking of the other ladies in treating her quickly and correctly with cold compresses and cling film, which stops the air infecting the burn, means she should get away without any scarring.
