Farquharson arrived in Barnstaple full of confidence having won the Roehampton title the previous week, and this form was particularly evident in beating 5th seed Gregoire Barrere 75 63 in Saturday’s final.
Barrere, had reached the final without the loss of a set, but wasn’t quite prepared for the stunning onslaught Farquharson produced from 5-4 down in the 1st set, to reel off 3 games in a row to take the opening set 7-5.
The Parisien, was still stunned in the opening exchanges of the 2nd set, with the Brit gaining a decisive break, and after saving break points in the 8th game, Farquharson wasn’t to be thwarted in his march to the Barnstaple title.
After the match Farquharson commented ‘These past 2 weeks have been great for me, and this week’s event at Barnstaple has been my favourite on the British circuit. I’ll now go away to review my schedule, and certainly look at playing some Challenger level events before the end of the year’.
The Barnstaple crowd was also treated to a highly entertaining doubles final which saw Peter Bothwell & Neil Pauffley prevail 64 67(5) [10-6], against un-seeded pair Rob Carter & Ryan Peniston.
After the match, Bothwell commented ‘this was my 3rd week in a row making it to the doubles final, so it’s great to finally get the title’. Partner Pauffley said ‘It’s always great coming to Barnstaple, everyone is so friendly, and the crowd is great. Having won the singles title in 2016, it’s a good feeling coming away with another title this year’
