Thursday, August 23, 2012

Junior tennis player Harry Butler from Bournemouth has won the consolation draw singles title at the 12U AEGON British Junior National Championships after defeating Andrew Rozanov 6-2, 6-2 in the final at the West Hants Club in Bournemouth.

The AEGON British Junior National Championships is the most prestigious domestic junior competition and the pinnacle of the summer calendar for many of Britain’s best junior players.

Speaking after his victory, the 12 year old who trains at West Hants said: “I was disappointed to lose in my first match of the main draw but I have played really well in the consolation and it's great to win a medal in my home town."

In front of friends and family at the West Hants Club Butler played a competitive and ruthless match.

"I was pumped for this match and as I had never played Andrew before I played my own game and moved him around the court. I play here a lot so I know these courts well and I was really happy to win. I hope I can do well in the doubles as wel!"

Butler reached the main draw quarter-finals of the doubles event with his partner Ewen Lumsden.
