THE memory of a popular little boy is to live on, after a Bournemouth tennis club unveiled a trophy and plaque in Matin Nochad’s name.
The six-year-old from Poole died of a head injury after falling down a 60ft well in Sri Lanka just hours into a family holiday last month.
Staff at Bournemouth Gardens Tennis Club, where Matin played, wanted to do something to remember the youngster, who spoke both Dutch and English.
The plaque dedicated to Matin has gone up and The Matin Nochad award will go to a player in Matin’s age group every six to eight months.
Happy Karl Burt, who leads the mini tennis staff, said: “Matin always seemed a happy boy and looked forward and embraced challenges.
“He did very well and in time would have made a very good player.”
Coach Chris Brown said Matin was popular and talented and made great progress in tennis, adding: “He always smiled on court whether good or bad and gave 110 per cent effort.
“With a fantastic family behind him, Matin was a very well mannered boy with a bubbly character.
He will be greatly missed at the centre.”
Matin’s dad Mohamed Nochad said: “I want to thank the school and the tennis club and also my directors here at Best Western Hotel Royale.
“They have been very supportive at what is a difficult time.”
Matin’s school, St Aldhelms in Poole, is also organising a lasting tribute.
