West Hants player Tim Jarvis was among a strong field at the Winter National 9&Under Boys tournament at the Nottingham Tennis Centre and the youngster showed that he can compete with some of the best players of his age group after some strong performances.
Jarvis, who holds and Orange 1* rating, was drawn in a tough group which featured eventual finalist Toby Bloomfield, William Nolan who finished fourth overall and Joshua Stokes who reached the semi-finals of the consolation draw.
The Dorset player gave a good account of his talents as he came up against the strong opposition in his group. He showed outstanding determination in spite of defeat in all three of his group matches, Jarvis battled hard in all three of his matches, narrowly losing 7-3, 0-7, 7-4 to Bloomfield, 7-5, 7-3 to Nolan and 7-5, 1-7, 7-3 to Stokes.
In the Consolation draw, Jarvis got the chance to play Stokes again after being beaten by Roan Jones. Another close affair followed as the West Hants player was forced into a decided set by his opponent. But Jarvis held strong and played out the third set to score his first victory of the tournament, winning 7-2, 8-10, 7-4.
Jarvis’ performance comes after finishing as runner-up at the Winter Regional Tour competition at Weymouth. If his form continues, the young star is sure to progress and develop at an astounding rate in 2013.
