Adam Glynn had a spectacular year in 2012 and he has started 2013 in the same manner after victory at the National 16 & under Winter Tournament at the Gosling Tennis Centre in Hertfordshire.
Glynn, who is British number one for the age group, played some sublime Tennis on his way to taking the tournament and only dropped one set in his five matches.
A slow start in his first match, against Suffolk’s James Ling, saw him lose the first set 6-3, but he quickly found his stride as he stormed back to win the second and third sets 6-0, 6-1 to progress to the second round.
Over the next three rounds, Glynn swept aside Miles McDowall of Hampshire & the Isle of Wight 6-3, 6-2 in the second round, Oxfordshire’s Tory Dixon 6-2, 6-1 in the quarter-finals and wild car Marcus Walters from Nottinghamshire 6-1, 6-2 in the semi-finals.
The young Dorset star then came up against Lincolnshire’s Joe Woolley, who had earlier beaten the number two seed, in the final.
The pair fought out a close first set that Glynn eventually took 7-5 and then another tight contest in the second set that the Dorset player was able to win 6-4 and in turn close out the match and claim the tournament victory.
Glynn wasn’t the only Dorset player in the competition. Piers Farhang was in action and progressed deep into the draw, beating the fourth and seventh seeds in doing so. He reached the semi-finals but eventual runner-up Joe Woolley denied Farhang a place in what would have been an all-Dorset final.
