Dorset Tennis can boast a large number of upcoming young stars and after a strong start to 2013, Abigail Tyler looks to have added her name to that list.
Competing in the Regional Tour under 10’s girls’ competition at Weymouth, Tyler won two of her four matches in the round-robin format on her way to finishing second in the group.
Tyler, a Green 1 rating, defeated Hampshire and the Isle of Wight’s Alana Unitt and Lorelei Sanderson 4-0 and 4-2 respectively to create a real chance of winning the group.
Unfortunately, her remaining two matches didn’t follow suit as she was beaten by Issy Hiles, Wilthire, and Essex’s Abigail Michelow, who eventually won the competition after victories in all four of her matches.
Tyler fought hard but was beaten 4-2 by Hiles and in her final match against Michelow, she was unable to stop her opponent and went down 4-1.
She finished in second place thanks to having won 11 games in her matches, one more than third placed Sanderson and two more than fourth placed Hiles.
