With Tennis fever gripping the UK, BBC News made the journey down to the south coast to investigate where the public can play affordable Tennis after a surge of interest following Andy Murray’s Wimbledon win.
The BBC’s Personal finance reporter, Kevin Peachey, visited the Shelley Park courts to see what local players think about the expense of the sport. Peachey also spoke to local coach and parks co-ordinator Matt Cole about the key-fob parks system that he been introduced in the county.
Tennis is in the process of trying to dispel the image of being an elitist sport using the concept “Anyone for Tennis?” Speaking at Southbourne Tennis Club, Simon Johnson, LTA South-West Operations Manager, made a list of suggestions on how to save money when playing tennis including; going through the LTA website to see where cheap local courts can be found, buying beginner equipment from a local supermarket and looking for group coaching sessions.
