Bournemouth's Ryan Frankel, a top ranked junior tennis player and the winner of the recent under 14's 2009 Road to Wimbledon championship is undertaking a 14 day trek to Everest Base Camp in Nepal for Sport Relief. The trip coincides with the Sport Relief TV show on the BBC, 19th March.
Ryan is currently in Israel competing in 2 under 16 Tennis Europe events back to back. As soon as he arrives back into London he is on a plane for Kathmandu, Nepal. Ryan is also scheduled to volunteer for a few days in an Nepalese orphanage and hopes to give some of the children there some tennis lessons.
He will also be coaching some up and coming junior Nepalese players and the final arrangements are being made for Ryan to play an exhibition match at the Nepalese Tennis Federation's courts.
Ryan is hoping to raise £1,000 and already has had £310.00 donated so far.
Apart from raising money for charity Ryan wanted to challenge himself in some way other than on the tennis court or in the gym and if his choice to trek up Mt Everest is any guide, who knows what challenges he may set himself in the future.
As well as pushing his own limits Ryan really wants to help, first hand, children less fortunate than himself and this trip benefiting Sport Relief and helping orphans will enable him to do both.
Ryan is sponsored by FILA, Prince and Langtry Manor Hotels.
