After easing through the Regional Knockout stage of the AEGON Team Tennis Schools competition, Talbot Heath School’s year 8 and year 10 girls’ teams have been on top form yet again.
Both teams have ensured their places in the next round of the competition after racing through the South West Quarter Finals. The year 8s dominated from the first point of their first match, against Stanwell School from South Wales, and only conceded a single game on their way to a 12-0 victory.
In their second match of the Quarter Finals, they faced Somerset’s Millfield Prep School for a spot in the Regional Semi Finals. Talbot’s year 8s again demonstrated their title credentials as they showed their class with another whitewash victory, again losing just a one game.
The Talbot year 10s were almost as dominant in their own two matches. In their first tie, against Millfield Prep School, they scored a 12-0 win to ensure that Talbot got the better of the Somerset school in both of their meetings on the day.
The team were then up against Avon’s Red Maids School for a place in the next stage. The match was not quite as straight forward as Talbot’s previous encounter, but they stayed strong after a small set-back in the fourth singles match and finished off the tie with a victory in the first doubles match to secure an 8-2 win to ensure their place in the Regional Semi-Finals.
If Talbot’s teams can maintain this current form they’ll surely be in with a great chance of equalling or even bettering last year’s outstanding achievements.
