Yarm Welcomes LTA Deputy President

Saturday, April 14, 2012

Yarm Tennis Club, which is one of Durham & Cleveland top outdoor Clubs welcomed Cathie Sabin who is the Lawn Tennis Association’s Deputy President.

The Club ran a Mini Tennis Orange competition, which showcased a number of keen players of all standards and also highlighted the continued hard work from Head Coach Anne Clayton who has really started to grow British Tennis in the area.  Yarm has 61 regularly competing juniors, which displays one of the Clubs aims to encourage players of all standards to enjoy competitions and help develop their games.

We also saw an adult event taking place that really showed the range of opportunities that are on offer at the Teesside based Club.  Off court Cathie met club volunteers and parents who without their support and dedication tennis simply would not flourish.

Cathie was also delighted to thank Stuart Beagrie who is the Managing Director of Advance Vehicle Leasing Ltd for his support of the prestigious National Premier League Competition which is taking place between April 11-15th at Virgin Active Wearside, Sunderland.  The National event is a men’s doubles league which has been played throughout the country during the winter, culminating in the finals.

There are 14 teams who have made it through to the finals, and we’re hoping that players such as Liam Broady and Dan Evans, who was instrumental in helping the Great Britain team to success in the last Davis Cup tie, will be playing for their teams.

Cathie expressed,

“It was fantastic to visit Yarm Tennis Club.  The Club is always spoken about very highly in Durham & Cleveland and this is down to everyone involved.  The volunteers and coaching team dedicate their time to grow British Tennis and continue to provide a huge range of opportunities for the whole community to be involved."

Cathie went on to celebrate Stuart Beagrie's support of the NPL,

"Stuart’s contribution to supporting this prestigious event has been invaluable and ensured world class tennis has come back to the North East.  The youngsters we saw this morning will be inspired when they go to watch the players competing in Sunderland!”
