Close Call Between North East and Cumbria Counties In 9&U County Cup

Durham and Cleveland were hosts of the 9&U county cup this summer.

The event was played at the Sunderland Tennis Centre last Saturday 21st July. Division B was one of 10 divisions played across the country that day. Division B consisted of 4 counties from across the country which included Durham & Cleveland, Northumberland, Cumbria and North Wales.

The Durham and Cleveland team consisted of 3 boys and 4 girls, Cameron Bentham, Jamie Brabiner, Joseph Farmer, Cara Todd, Sophie Jackson, Farah Yossry and Liv Clark. Each match was the best of 9 rubbers, 3 boys singles and a doubles, 3 girls singles and a doubles and a mixed doubles.

Durham and Cleveland Captain Anthony Reynolds commented,

“We showed great character and determination in our first match against Northumberland coming from two rubbers down to win 7-2.
“Our second match witnessed some great tennis which we narrowly won, beating North Wales 6-3.
"Our final match turned out to be an epic. The game went all the way to the final rubber which thankfully won 5-4.
"This was the players 1st County Cup together and morale was high, raising the team's spirit which was evident throughout the day. The atmosphere was great and the event turned out to be a great success thanks to everyone involved."
