David Lloyd Diamonds play another great tie.  Here's the blog from Samantha Cornelius....

Today (March 11, 2012), David Lloyd Diamonds beat Virgin Active Warriors 5-1.  It was an epic day for the Diamonds as the matches were tough and very enduring.  However we pulled through and won!

Virgin Active played well but the Diamonds managed to claw their way to the top with Victoria Cornelius winning her singles match, which was the longest out of all 3 singles matches.  Then Samantha Reed battled hard in her match, but sadly Ellisha just had the edge and won.

Samantha Cornelius (me!) won her match in a tie break against Lucy Garman.  Both players were doing shuttle runs trying to retrieve every ball and it was great to see such a close match.

The doubles followed the singles.  The balls were flying back and forth like no tomorrow, with lots of pace and the consistency of the shots was amazing!  I must give credit to all four players as they persevered through thick and thin!  All the points were unbelievably long, filled with spectacular shots. The game could have lasted forever but we managed to win, which was fab.

Our captain was encouraging and all the parents were without a doubt supportive. Jo (our captain) said and I quote,

“The tip of the day is move your feet and move forwards on your volleys!”

I think we all played to the best of our ability and whatever the outcome we would have been proud of ourselves. I conclude that today was fun and exciting day.  Also a big thanks to Julie Cornelius, Jo Cunliffe and Clare Reed for waiting around for us and we had a great day!!!

That concludes David Lloyd Diamond’s league matches.  We are currently top of the league (wahoo!) but there are still a lot of other thrilling matches to take place.  Hopefully we have done enough, but whatever the outcome Team Diamonds (in my 'professional opinion' - which isn’t the greatest!!!!) are the best and 'smiliest' team in the universe.

Pictured are Samantha and Victoria Cornelius (in our excitement we forgot to get a team photo with Samantha Reed in after the match!) next to the 'mini team bus!!!!'

We must also say thanks to Anna Dunne for saying she was available for the match, but unfortunately she couldn't play because a player had withdrawn from the opposition.
