14U Girls Battle Through In Lincoln

Wednesday, May 09, 2012

Durham & Cleveland's 14U Girls team, consisting of Donia Abdel-Aziz, Rebeca Richardson, Emily Sim, Melissa Lowe, Niamh Packer and Ellisha Willis, played over the weekend at Lincoln.

Captain, Alan Smith, was really pleased with the players, and was proud of their gutsy performances and great attitude throughout the weekend.

Day 1 was against North Scotland and the girls narrowly lost 4-2. The doubles match that Melissa and Emily played came down to the wire in a match tie-break third set that they narrowly lost, 15-17.

Day 2 saw the girls playing North Wales in the sunshine. At the end of the singles matches, it was 2-2, so all to play for in the doubles. The two doubles matches were also split, so it went down to a tie-break shootout decider! It was extremely close, and our girls had match point at 9-8, but just couldn't quite close it out and they just lost, 11-9.

The final fixture versus West of Scotland managed to get underway that evening, and the day finished with the D&C girls 2-0 up with great wins from Melissa and Rebeca.

Day 3 was the best day for D&C in terms of wins - everyone came away with a win, defeating West of Scotland 6-0.

Captain Alan said; "Well done to all girls - it was a weekend of match tie-breaks and through some ups and downs we left Lincoln with our heads held high and a hunger to play more!"

Congratulations to the whole team!
