Fifty hearing impaired children from 6 schools across the North East arrived at Tennis World, Middlesbrough for the annual Harry Thomas Memorial tennis event, sponsored by Durham & Cleveland LTA.
With schools travelling from Wetherby, Bradford, Sunderland and Middlesbrough to compete it was a true North East event.
The early morning heavy rain fortunately cleared before play started around 10.30 am so outdoor play was possible together with the use of the 4 indoor courts for 2 hours. Following round robin matches and semi-finals, four very competitive finals resulted in wins for Louis Faithful (St Johns, Wetherby), Rohail Malik (Hanson School, Bradford), Emily Crosby (Kings Academy, Middlesbrough) and Georgie Paul (Hanson).
John Schofield, Durham & Cleveland LTA President said; "It is a pleasure to see these children mix and make friends with other hearing impaired children from different schools and to see the enjoyment on their faces, win or lose."
