The first in a series of adult tournaments kicked off last Saturday at Virgin Active Wearside.
Referee Andy Berne has put together a series of adult tournaments which will run once a month throughout the winter on the indoor courts at Virgin Active Wearside. The first of these Grade 4 events took place on 10 November with an A and a B men's draw, and for the first time, a ladies draw.
These are one day events taking place every month and will culminate in a Grade 3 event in March. The events are going a long way in filling the gap in providing competitive singles opportunities for adults, and they are proving popular! Everyone on Saturday night loved the competition and can't wait for the next one in December!
The evenutal winners on Saturday evening were Roman Stepanov, in the Grade 4 A draw and William Ip in the Grade 5 B draw. Liz Clark took the crown in the ladies draw after a nail-bitting final over Jill Griffiths that went to 11-9 in the match tie-break.
