Kyle's Road To Wimbledon Experience

Friday, September 07, 2012

Kyle Upton, Durham & Cleveland's county Road to Wimbledon winner has put pen to paper, letting us know all about his experience being able to play in the National finals in London.

“The Road to Wimbledon 2012 was held at the Bank of England Sport Ground which had 18 grass courts and backed onto the National Tennis Centre at Roehampton.

"The tournament started with a qualifying event where 64 boys were put into groups of four where the top two players from each group went through to a main draw of 32 and the bottom two went into a consolation draw. I played well and beat two out of the other three players in my group. So I qualified along with Luke Hammond, who was the eventual overall tournament winner. I then had a very close match against James Caddies a 5.2 rated player, but lost 7-6 2-6 6-3.

"The experience was unforgettable especially as we were invited into the National Tennis Centre to play due to rain stopping play on the grass courts. I got to play 1 point in the National Tennis Centre as I was at match point when the rain came down ! We also saw James Ward and Jamie Murray playing there as well as the Paralympics team warming up for the Olympics”

Congratulations to Kyle!
