Day 5 - FINALS DAY

What a brilliant week! Although they were worn out, Referee Bill Perkins and court supervisor John Gullon, had a trouble free week and throughly enjoyed the tournament and both commented on the general good behaviour, good spirit and fair play.

Finals day was another dry day with a cold wind, but the sun did make an appearance so everything started at 10am with a fun touchtennis event with 8 of the clubs members. There was a lot of laughing and giggling, and even John Schofield decided to try his hand at tennis again! He was rather successful, and went unbeaten!

Whilst this was going on Jo Cunliffe was busy doing her skipping to warm up for her final and Anne Clayton went off to Yarm station to collect Wendy Glasper and Steve Trewick our Visiually Imparied players, who for the first time were going to experience playing outside. It was lovely to have them included in the county event for the first time.

Wendy and Steve said; "It was great to meet you. Thanks ever so much for the lift, and to everyone at Yarm TC for being so lovely, and especially for cake. We had a great day playing."

So Finals came and went finishing around 3pm with the Boys 18U final which went down to the 3rd set tiebreak. Some equally close and exciting matches took place throughout the day.

What an enjoyable week it was with lots of tennis and plenty of things for the players to do whilst off court. The young ones went off to the newly opened play ground at the back of the courts, and there were lots making trips into Yarm to sample the icecream speciality shop and the sweet shop. There was lots of table tennis and table football going on in between tennis, lots of new and old faces appearing and lots of friends made.

Thank you to the ladies from Yarm - Anne, Margaret, Jill, Pam, Dorothy, Pauline and Angela that supplied the refreshments. All were complimented on their friendly service.

What a great week!!

Not sure what I'm going to do now, i'll miss seeing all these people every day. Roll on next year!
