Tees Valley Visually Impaired Tennis Competition Is A UK First!

Wednesday, February 26, 2014

On Saturday 15th March 2014, Tennis World Middlesbrough will play host to a Visually Impaired Tennis Competition which will be the first of its type in the UK to adopt the newly established International Tennis Federation (ITF) rules!

On February 8th-13th 2014 the first International Blind Tennis Congress was held in Texas, with representatives from around the world collaborating to develop international rules for blind and visually impaired tennis!

From 4:30pm on Saturday 15th March, players from the North East and Yorkshire will be greeted at reception and shown to the cafe bar by friendly event volunteers where they will be briefed on the new rules of the game.

The briefing will be led by Andy Crockett and Jill King who lead York Visually Impaired Tennis Club and represented the UK at the first International Blind Tennis Congress. At 5pm players will make their way on court and the competition will begin!

The round robin competition will be played as a tie break to ten or three mini tie breaks to seven depending on the number of entries.

The event will conclude in the cafe bar where players will join families from the Inclusive Family Fun Event for the presentation. The winner and runner up from the Tees Valley Visually Impaired Tennis Competition will be announced!

To enter the Tees Valley Visually Impaired Tennis Competition email your name, sight category and the club you are representing to r.pybus@tees.ac.uk.
