Exciting Weekend in Carlisle for Girls 10U County Team

Tuesday, June 10, 2014

Please see below report from 10U Girls County Cup Captain Anne Clayton.

We all met Friday evening for a team meal, the girls chatting and getting excited about the forthcoming 2 days, good luck county blue bracelets were made and so we were all set to start the weekend.  Team Cheri Darley, Lydia Packer, Abby Scott,  reserve Catharine Smith (who didn’t travel as she was ill).

We woke up Sat morning to blue skies, no wind and sun shining, a perfect day for a good U10 county cup.

Day 1 Durham & Cleveland were placed in a sub group with North & South of Scotland with the top two teams due to go through to the semi finals on day two.

The girls all pulled together and with good teamwork led us to 2 good victories, beating South of Scotland 4-0 and North of Scotland 3-1, putting us into the semi final for day 2 to play a strong East of Scotland.  Cheri and Lydia on day 1 winning all of their matches.

Day 2 Sunday another lovely day, East of Scotland were a strong confident team and we narrowly lost 3-1 but only after a good contest.  Cheri won comfortably a match she wasn’t sure about at the beginning, Lydia although played well came across a tough opponent and Abby fought hard but lost in a 3rd set match tiebreak.

The East completed their win with a strong doubles win.

We then played North of Scotland for 3rd/4th position, we beat them again this time

4-0, Cheri and Lydia winning their singles again and another tough match for Abby this time she came through fighting for every point and eventually won in a 3rd set match tie break.

A very good 3rd place.

Well fought girls, excellent from our No1 player Cheri only losing 1 doubles all weekend.

Quote from the girls

Cheri

“Had a fab time at the county cup. I loved meeting up with all my different friends from all the different counties. It was great how Abby, Lydia and I all bonded as a team together and Anne got us through some difficult matches. We all especially enjoyed the fruit kebabs that the Chatsworth club had made. Can't wait to go again”.

Lydia

“I really enjoyed my time playing County Cup at Carlisle as I played lots of matches against different girls that I didn't know. Overall, we played fantastic and ended up coming third. Also the fruit kebabs at Chatsworth were fab!!”

Anne – team captain

“What an enjoyable weekend, really enjoyed it, thank you team and parents.

The girls were a credit to the County both on and off court and should be proud of their achievements."
