The LTA, in partnership with GB Tennis Girls (GBTG) and the Wimbledon Junior Tennis Initiative (WJTI) launched the ‘GB Tennis Girls Team Challenge’ on Sunday January 8th 2017.
Tennis World in Middlesbrough welcomed 14 girls from 4 local tennis clubs to enjoy the Sunday social! Players from Hutton Rudby, Yarm, Tennis World and David Lloyd Teesside relished the fun, local and competitive opportunity, which included a parent / guardian workshop and coaching course.
The Mini Tennis Orange event is aimed at 9 & Under players, and a number of them have been involved in the programme since its inauguration in 2014.

The events saw an all-girl affair with players, volunteer umpires and referees all female, with the hopes of encouraging young girls to keep playing through positive role models. This is a key intervention to encourage girls to enjoy being around friends in a fun and relaxed environment and referee Claire Smith was delighted with her respective event in Teesside,
"It was brilliant to see so many entries in the Mini Tennis Orange event. It was fab to see the girls making new friends, whilst also competing against and with each other and we are really looking forward to the next 2 fixtures!"
