A great time was had by all at the U10 Girls County Cup event held at the Northumberland Club, Newcastle upon Tyne on the 27th and 28th May.
Representing the Durham and Cleveland team were: Francesca Simpson, Emily Cassap, Alexia Reynolds and Beth Sullock. All players performed well throughout the weekend.
The first match was against South of Scotland on the outside clay courts. Here Alexia and Emily coped well on a surface they had little experience of playing on, and won both their matches. After a rain break we then moved indoors to complete this match, with Francesca winning her singles event. The girls then played equally well against the East of Scotland, with Alexia losing a close singles match in a third set tiebreak. After winning both doubles matches, Durham and Cleveland won both their matches 4-0, and 3-1 overall, to progress to the final.
The final against Northumberland was again played on the outdoor clay courts in bright and windy conditions. All our girls competed well in the singles, but Northumberland were a bit too strong. In the doubles, Beth and Alexia did well to take 2 games off the Northumberland pair.
A big thank you to the players who all competed well this weekend, and created a great team atmosphere.
