Children from Gloucester’s tennis centre had the chance to meet a living legend on the Thursday before the start of the 2009 Wimbledon Championships.
The following children; Beth Adkins, Georgina Barnes, Owen Berry, Ethan Cowley, Ajay Dhaliwal, Zhen Hussain, Adrienne Roser, Flo Wallis-Smith, Beth Wilson and Shelley Young recently met world number two and five times Wimbledon Champion Roger Federer as he prepared for the 2009 Championships.
They were selected among 400 children on the programme at the Oxstalls centre for a trip to the All England Tennis Club based on their commitment to train and compete and overall attitude.
The children took a tour of the grounds, were shown the trophies, and got on to the Centre Court.
Swiss Roger stopped to sign autographs for the children and posed for photos on the day.
Daren Morris, Tennis Performance Officer for Aspire Sports and Cultural Trust, who oversees the tennis programme, at Plock Court said: “This trip was a once in a lifetime experience that the children will never forget”
