On Saturday 5th June the East Glos Club held an Open Day to celebrate their 125th Birthday. Blessed with a beautiful Cotswold summer day the Club looked magnificent thanks to the tireless efforts of Stuart Dominey, the Head Groundsman and his staff.
A warm welcome was extended to hundreds of members, guests and visitors who arrived to take part in the many and varied activities on offer. On the tennis courts people were able to try out racquets from Head, Wilson and Babolat and get advice on the best type for their skills. “Beat the Ball Machine” and “Fastest Serve Recorded” competitions were hotly contested by all ages, whilst a coaching clinic encouraged players to have a hit. A top level mixed doubles exhibition match on one of the grass show courts was enjoyed by many spectators; a real taster for Wimbledon.
The Mayor, Councillor Anne Regan raised the 125 Flag and made a wonderful speech highlighting the history and friendship of East Glos.
In the Kids Zone tiny tots were encouraged to hit soft balls and try out co-ordination techniques by the coaches with parents giving encouragement to those who were a bit shy. Several wanted to sign up for one or other of the many Junior Coaching Courses on offer at East Glos.
Club Manager, Di Pierce, says: “It was a wonderful day with lots of new members signing up. We hope that all those who couldn’t come on Saturday will ‘try us out’ in the future. Just give us a call and we’ll tell you how.”
