More than 90 people attended a Grand Opening ceremony at Chalford Tennis Club to celebrate the completion of a new court.
With the help of a generous grant from the LTA, the club has been able to build a fifth floodlit court and resurface two existing courts. The work was completed at the end of April, and the new court will mainly be used for coaching.
Chalford Tennis Club has undergone impressive expansion in recent years and membership levels are higher than ever. An impressive junior programme has been put in place, run by a number of talented coaches under the leadership of Charlie Crisp, who won 2011 Coach of the Year in the Stroud Sport & Physical Activity Awards.
Charlie, currently ranked as the Number 1 Men's player in Gloucestershire, runs performance groups for children as young as five, and several of the juniors who train with him are now rising up through the county rankings.
After an official ribbon cutting ceremony, to declare the new court open, club chair Sarah Lingard thanked members of the Gloucestershire LTA for their support. Spectators were then treated to an exhibition match between Charlie and Jonathan Tassell, a top ranked Queens Club player who has competed on the ATP circuit.
