Gloucestershire 10U Boys compete in Halton

Friday, June 22, 2012

Gloucestershire 10U Boys team lead by team captain Mark Lunn, travelled to Halton to take part in the AEGON 10U County Cup on the 2nd and 3rd of June.

The team were: Sebastian Blake, Alexander Greenough, Maian Minnaar and Samuil Vrabtchev.

Full results from the weekend can be found here, with a round up from Mark below.  Information on the AEGON County Cup can be found here.

"2nd June
Gloucestershire v Hertfordshire 2-6
Maian Minnaar lost to David Latter 0-4 2-4
Alex Greenough lost to Joe Collins 2-4 5-3 0-1 (4)
Seb Blake lost to Elias Ghebru 1-4 0-4
Minnaar / Greenough beat Ghebru / Oliver Broomfield 5-4 (4) 4-5 (0) 1-0 (8)

Alex had a great match in the number 2 singles. All the players performed well against quality opposition. A fantastic doubles match was rewarded with a win which was thoroughly deserved.

Gloucestershire v Middlesex 0-8
Maian Minnaar lost to Alexander Saunders 1-4 2-4
Alex Greenough lost to Arjun B Palmer 0-4 4-2 0-1 (3)
Samuil Vrabtchev lost to Brendan Emmanuel 0-4 1-4
Blake / Vrabtchev lost to Palmer / Harry Saunders 1-4 1-4

Alex again performed really well against a much more experienced opponent. Played a great 2nd set but couldn’t quite sustain his level into the tie-break. Maian was very close and lost several points in the ‘no-ad’ rule.

3rd June
Gloucestershire v Buckinghamshire 0-8
Maian Minnaar lost to Benjamin Smith 2-4 0-4
Alex Greenough lost to Matthew Blood 1-4 2-4
Seb Blake lost to Dylan Smith 1-4 1-4
Blake / Vrabtchev lost to B Smith / Edward Crowston 1-4 1-4

This team were the eventual winners. They were very strong but all our players fought hard and gave a good account of themselves.

Gloucestershire v Oxfordshire 2-6
Maian Minnaar lost to George Slater 5-3 3-5 0-1 (3)
Alex Greenough lost to Connor Ferguson 1-4 1-4
Samuil Vrabtchev lost to James Redfern 4-5 (2) 4-5 (3)
Minnaar / Greenough beat Redfern / Oliver Broadhurst 4-1 2-4 1-0 (8)

Maian and Sam were so close to victory and had two very good matches. Alex gave probably his best performance of the weekend against the best player at the competition. However we ended with a doubles win which was deserved by the 2 hardest working players in our team."
