"We started the county event by playing Middlesex, which was the toughest county in the group. The boys knew it would be a challenge but they were up for it! We started the singles very positively. Charlie played an amazing match against Louis Newman, winning in three sets. Zander also played fantastically well and lost the match with a very close second set. We needed to win both doubles in order to take it to a tie break shoot out. This was always going to be difficult against such a strong team, however, Charlie and Miles played an excellent match, only just losing in a third set tie-break. On the second day our next challenge was playing Hampshire and IOW. Charlie won his singles, again in three sets, but unfortunately the rest of the team lost their singles matches. With Charlie’s win, we needed to then win both doubles to take it to a tie-break shoot out. Zander and Owain played the best doubles of the tournament and fought hard to win in three sets. Miles and Charlie were then under pressure to win their doubles too. After an exciting match they lost 10-8 in the championship tie-break. All the doubles practice really paid off as there was some excellent doubles being played throughout the tournament. We knew by the last day that we would not be able to win the group, but the team were in good spirits and being positive about getting a good result against Oxfordshire. After battling through playing in really poor weather conditions, which meant lots of waiting around and interrupted match play, we beat Oxfordshire. Charlie, Joel and Owain all won their singles matches with fantastic results. Doubles had to be cancelled due to the weather, so Gloucestershire won 3-1. Well done to the team for persevering. Captain’s player of the tournament was Charlie Chapman as he played three exceptional matches and two very good doubles matches. Well done boys!"
