Gloucestershire 18U team lead by team captain Melissa Russell, travelled to Cardiff to take part in the AEGON 18U County Cup from the 2nd to 4th March.
The team were: Alicia Barnett, Sophie Brazell, Jenny Eales, Olivia Horn, Lily Owen, Elsa Pool, Judith Richards and Megan Webb.
Full results from the weekend can be found here, with a round up from Melissa below. Information on the AEGON County Cup can be found here.
"This year's County Cup came around very quickly and sadly for one of our players, Laura Eales, it was too soon. Laura found out the day before leaving that due to injury she would not be able to play. However the girls were really pleased when they heard that Laura was still able to travel with us as part of the team.
On Friday, our first day in Group 4A in Cardiff, we played Norfolk, the girls fought really hard and were 3-3 after singles, but things didn't go our way in the doubles and we lost the tie 6-3.
On Saturday we played Berkshire, we knew that this would be another tough match as they beat Northumberland convincingly. Again after the singles, we were 3-3 having played some great matches, but heartbreakingly we went down 5-4 after doubles.
It's never easy remaining upbeat after losing your first two days and knowing that you are playing to avoid relegation on your last day, but the girls did just this. The team were really positive going on to court against Northumberland and were really supportive of each other, resulting in an 8-1 win which meant that next year we will remain in Group 4A.
The girls were great ambassadors of Gloucestershire tennis and are a pleasure to take away. It has also been noted that unusually Sophie Brazell was only seen having a little tumble once............this has to be a record!"
