Day 1 v Hereford & Worcester

On paper we were very closely matched with H&W, and the day reflected just that. After the first two singles we were 2-0 down, despite a great effort from Eleanor who had a hard fought 6-7, 3-6 loss. Megan and Georgina came fighting back to win the next two singles to level the match at 2-2. On to the doubles where Eleanor and Georgina had two tight sets, but unfortunately didn’t come out on top. At this stage it was all down to Megan and Lauren to keep us in the running for an overall win. They played very well and had an extremely close match which went down to a Championship tiebreak. After saving match points against them, the girls pulled off a fantastic win to take us to a tiebreak shootout to decide the tie. This was a very nerve-wracking time for the players and spectators alike! Megan and Lauren once again stepped up to the plate and played with tremendous courage to win the tiebreak 11-9. Final result: Glos win 4-3.

Day 1 and 2 v Shropshire

After the mammoth effort beating H&W the team then had to play the doubles matches against Shropshire on the same day. I think the success of the day so far outweighed the tiredness and the girls went into the doubles matches in very positive spirits. Megan and Eleanor teamed up this time and comprehensively beat the Shrops 1st pair 6-0, 6-1. Georgina and Holly also dispatched the Shrops 2nd pair very convincingly 6-2, 6-2.

Therefore, we went into Day 2 2-0 up, a good starting point. Amy put up a good fight in her singles, but lost a close 3-6, 5-7 match. Eleanor, Georgina and Megan also put in great performances to win their singles matches to end a much shorter, but equally successful, second day. Final result: Glos win 5-1.

Day 3: v Middlesex

After finishing top of our round robin box, we had to play Middlesex in a match to decide who went through to the finals. This was always going to be a hard task as Middlesex are a very strong team. Megan, Georgina, Lauren and Eleanor all played some very good tennis and put in maximum effort against very strong opponents. We did not pull of any wins, but the girls played well and I was very proud of their performances. It was also a great learning experience for the girls.

Overall it was a successful weekend with some fantastic tennis to watch. The girls worked hard, enjoyed themselves and they can be proud of their achievements.
