Oxstalls Indoor Tennis Centre, Gloucester managed by Aspire Sports and Cultural Trust held there 3rd Oxstalls Junior Tennis Open Tournament during half term. With over 280 children travelling from all parts of the country from Cornwall, Wales and as far as Norfolk to compete in an LTA National Tournament.
The Junior Open Tennis tournament which was supported by Endsleigh Insurance Services saw top juniors from the country, including four top ten players and a number of LTA future stars compete in all age groups from Under 8’s through to Under 18’s boys and girls, held over six days of the half term.
There were a number of exceptional performances from players based in Gloucestershire throughout the week. The highlight for Oxstalls Tennis Centre being Harry Emmett winning the Under 9’s boys singles event. Harry who trains at the centre performed extremely well beating Alexander Maggs (Worcestershire) in the final.
Miles Johnson-Manley, who trains with Tennis Plus and squads at Oxstalls Tennis Centre won the Boys Under 12’s singles event beating Max Stewart (Warwickshire) in three sets in an excellent final. On route to the final Miles beat fellow Gloucestershire player Charlie Chapman in the semi final.
Other Gloucestershire wins included Nadar Murad and Laura Eales, both based at Esporta win their respective finals, boys under 18’s and girls under 16’s singles. Murad winning his in three sets on the final afternoon to conclude an excellent match and tournament. Eales’ result was a straight sets win against Kathryn Hughes (Wales & no 9 in the UK).
Results from other events were, Under 8’s mixed, Thomas Evans (Llanelli), Under 9’s Girls, Savannah Yardley (Birmingham), Under 10’s Boys, Alexander Lunn (Leicestershire), Under 10’s Girls, Kate Horsburgh (Malvern), Under 12’s Girls, Ema Lazic (Swindon), Under 14’s Boys, Luke Simone (South Wales) Girls, Meryl Bird (South Wales), Under 16’s Boys Adam Glyn (West Hants & No 3 UK), Under 18’s girls Lauren Howard (Hampshire)
