I am pleased to inform everyone on the progress through the season of our 11 teams (5 Ladies and 6 men’s). Players from 11 Glos affiliated clubs participated in the 51 individual matches.
We attained our best result to date in the competition with no less than six teams (1 Ladies and 5 Men’s) gaining promotion for 2011. Well done and a big thank you to all the Team captains and players.
In general our player availability this season has remained a tight fit - injury etc problems were thankfully less than in 2009 but the introduction of singles into more age groups stretched several teams.
• Ladies 40 Div 2B - Captain: Marie Bell - Finished 1st - Won 5/5 Promoted

• Ladies 50 Div 3B – Captain: Renate Calvert - Finished 5th
Club represented: East Glos.
• Ladies 60 Div 2B – Captain: Felicity Thomas - Finished 3rd

• Ladies 65 Div 2A – Captain: Anne Dimmer - Finished 5th
Club represented: East Glos.
• Men’s 45 Div 4A – Joint Captains: Roger Bell and Neil Howitt - Finished 1st
Won 4/5 Promoted.Clubs represented: Chalford, Cirencester, East Glos &
Painswick.
• Men’s 55 Div 3A – Captain: c/o Jim Cressey and one individual team player per
match.- finished 1st – Won 5/5 Promoted. Club represented: East Glos.
• Men’s 60 Div 3A – Captain: Peter Collins Finished 2nd – Won 4/5 Promoted
Clubs represented: Bourton Vale, Bredon, East Glos and Oxstalls.
• Men’s 65 Div 3A - Captain: Jim Cressey - Finished 2nd Won 3/4 Promoted.
Clubs represented: East Glos & Glos Civil Service.
• Men’s 70 Div 2B Captain: Peter Allen.- Finished 6th
Clubs represented: Cam and Dursley, East Glos.
“BABY VETS”
These are annual weekend events held in Eastbourne with 4 counties contesting in separate Ladies and Men’s sections.
• Ladies 35 Div 2A Captain: Marie Bell - Finished 4th
Clubs represented East Glos, Painswick and Tewkesbury Park.
• Men’s 35 Div 5A - Captain: Neil Howitt - Finished 1st Promoted.
Clubs represented: Chalford, Cirencester, East Glos and Painswick.
Our thanks go to all Captains/Organisers and Players for their support, commitment and enthusiasm throughout the season. Additionally may I also thank Renate Calvert who is retiring from the role of L50 Captain/Organiser at this season’s end. We all appreciate her efforts in organising teams/fixtures over the past three years.
Also – closer to my other role as Captain of the M65’s – my grateful thanks to both Les Agius and John Fox who have announced their “retirement” from Inter-County Vets tennis. They have continued to “play down” for the last two season’s and this has enabled the M65’s to maintain an entry into the competition. A fitting testimonial to their efforts was endorsed by our team promotion at the season’s end.
Last but not least our grateful thanks to:
EAST GLOUCESTERSHIRE CLUB – Administration, Reception, Bar, Catering and Ground staff for really looking after us as our main base for home matches.
GLTA – Adrian (our Treasurer) and Claire Hatherall (at Oxstalls) for general financial and administrative support respectively.
ESPORTA & OXSTALLS – who have provided us with indoor courts very often at short notice on the few occasions EG has been beaten by the weather – or we have had long distance opponents who have linked weekend match programmes.
