Big World Impact is an international charity, committed to the empowerment of communities and individuals through bespoke education and support projects, with the aim to creating self-sustainable futures. Big World Impact will work with local communities in the Leigh Park area to deliver an enriched programme for young people, aged primarily between 9 and 19 years old. It will consist of sport/outdoor activities and arts/cultural events and will aid the personal and social development of these young people.
In September 2014 Big World Impact will be embarking on its first opportunity to be part of the LTA Apprenticeship Programme designed for young people who wish to pursue a full time professional career in tennis coaching.
Charlotte Bishop, Community Engagement Coordinator for Big World Impact, "We're extremely excited to work in partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association and Tennis Foundation to offer this apprenticeship opportunity to the local community. The Tennis Apprentice will enable Big World Impact to further build upon a diverse sport for development programme for young people in Leigh Park. We hope to encourage young people of all ages and abilities to take up tennis through a fun and structured community tennis programme."
Sarah Rutherford, Hampshire Apprenticeship Coordinator, “The LTA apprenticeship scheme has been really successful in Portsmouth; we currently have 7 on the scheme. We have got Apprentices that have had no tennis background just enjoyed sports at school right through to apprentices that have been playing tennis all their life. With the ‘on the job’ training and support through myself, the employer, plus having other LTA apprentices to share experiences with the scheme goes from strength to strength. We have apprentices based at various venues throughout the city some are just tennis but others deliver tennis as part of multi sports, so more of the community side of the sport.”
The Apprentice will plan and deliver a tennis programme to young people who may have never played tennis before, are educationally disengaged, experiencing social isolation, those with disabilities and/or those at risk or offending or re-offending.
This 1 year programme is delivered through a government accredited apprentice scheme and is supported by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) – the National Governing Body for British Tennis.
This is an excellent opportunity to ‘earn while you learn’. During the programme the apprentice coach will have the opportunity to embark on a Level 2 Coaching Apprenticeship and on completion of the initial programme they may have a further opportunity to progress to a Level 3 qualification and/or a Level 3 Coaching Apprenticeship.
Further training opportunities will be provided by Big World Impact, including Introduction To Youth Work courses and other relevant agenda’s and increased Safeguarding awareness.
This is an excellent opportunity for people aged between 16 and 24 to gain employment whilst training for nationally recognised qualification.
There are lots of benefits to doing an Apprenticeship one of which is that you will be earning a salary while you learn on a programme that has been designed specifically around your personal development.
