The Hampshire & Isle of Wight LTA AGM was held on Thursday 3rd December at Winchester Racquets and Fitness.
Peter Grinyer stepped down as Chairman and was replaced by Richard Cutler. Bob Battersby stood down as Vice-Chairman and is now our President. Keith Wiseman and Roy Henderson are now Vice-Presidents.
After the official AGM business, the presentations of the Babolat League winners and Aegon British Tennis Awards took place. Cathie Sabin, President of the LTA, presented the trophies and awards.
This is the first year for the Aegon British Tennis Awards, which are to acknowledge all the work done by people from all over the country starting with County Awards, progressing to Regional Awards and culminating in the National Awards. Hampshire & IOW had just over 100 nominations and the winners were:-
Volunteer Award – Patrick Hollwey
Young Volunteer Award – George Houghton
Coach Award – Kathy Charles
Club Award – Avondale Tennis Club
Community Venue Award – Portsmouth Tennis Academy
Education Award – Ally Unitt
Disability Programme Award – Portsmouth Tennis Centre
Outstanding Achievement – Margaret Leask
In addition, Hampshire & IOW LTA presented three County only awards:-
Team of the Year – Ladies Over 70’s County Team
Junior Player of the Year – Esther Adeshina
Outstanding Contribution to Hampshire & IOW Tennis – Peter Grinyer
County Colours were awarded to Rosemary Wilson and Hannah Crawford.
