The 18U Girls team were competing in Division 1 in Bath for the first time over the weekend of Friday 23rd - Sunday 25th February 2018.
The team was: Esther Adeshina, Isabelle Barfoot, Freya Davies, Charlotte Howard, Magda Kornijczuk, Aisling McGrane, Lorelei Sanderson, Hannah Smith
The other counties in the Division were: Middlesex, Surrey, Kent
Day 1 vs Middlesex
The singles players were: Aisling, Charlotte, Freya, Lorelei, Hannah, Issy
Both Freya and Hannah won their matches in a long 3 set battle. Sadly the Middlesex players were just a bit too strong for our girls. Therefore we went into the doubles 4-2 down.
The doubles pairs were: Aisling and Lorelei, Hannah and Freya, Charlotte and Magda
Charlotte and Magda lost in the 3rd set tie break.
Aisling and Lorelei fought hard against the first pair but lost in two close sets.
Freya and Hannah won in two sets
End of day result 6-3 to Middlesex
Day 2 vs Surrey
The team changed today with the arrival of Esther. The singles players were:
Esther, Aisling. Charlotte, Freya, Lorelei, Hannah
Esther, Aisling, Charlotte and Hannah all had great wins to take us into the doubles 4-2 up.
The doubles pairs were: Freya and Aisling, Esther and Hannah, Charlotte and Lorelei
Esther and Hannah had a close tie break first set but managed to win quite comfortably in the end, as did Freya and Lorelei.
End of day result 6-3 to Hampshire.
Day 3 vs Kent
The result of the group hung in the balance and a win was still a possibility for the top 3 counties including Hampshire & IOW
Our singles players stayed the same as yesterday and were:
Esther, Aisling, Charlotte, Freya, Lorelei, Hannah
It was a tough morning with some close matches, but the Kent side had some strong players. It was only Freya who managed to get the win.
The doubles pairs were: Aisling and Esther, Charlotte and Lorelei, Hannah and Freya
Hannah and Freya managed to win their doubles in two sets. Which took our end of day result to 7-2 to Kent.
The overall result of the group was: 1st Kent, 2nd Middlesex, 3rd Hampshire, 4th Surrey
Sadly as this was Division 1 it means we were relegated as two teams go down.
The girls made a great team and are looking forward to trying to gain promotion again next year.
I would like to thank Freya for her years of commitment to the team as this was her last year in U18’s.
