Aegon 12U County Cup Girls Qualifying Event

This year’s event was held over the weekend of Saturday 25^th – Sunday 26^th June at  Hassocks Lawn Tennis Club. The Weald. West Sussex.

The players were:  Eliza Wheeler, Isla Hignett, Anna Vinnell, Jasmin Bromilow, Martyna Ciubatiuk

The Team Captain was Fiona Nicholson

Match 1 v Kent

Well done to Eliza winning in a close tiebreak to keep us in the running going into doubles, with Isla and Anna fighting tough matches but learning lots. Trailing 1-2.

Straight onto Match 2 v Dorset

Eliza lost a very close one interrupted by rain 3 times, and Isla's opponent was tough with the match closer than the score would suggest. Anna came through with a final set tiebreak win that she was quite rightly proud of, to give us a chance in the doubles too.

Rain, thunder and lightning stopped finishing with doubles, so we will continue tomorrow but without Anna and Eliza due to school commitments.

Day 2 Match 1 v Sussex

Jasmin and Martyna fought hard in their matches with Jasmine just losing out in a match tiebreak and Isla took her first fabulous win at no 1. Again giving us a chance in the doubles later.

Match 2 v Surrey

With the same team again, Surrey were a bit too strong for our girls but we certainly tried, with each girl getting one game in their match - equally shared!

Due to all the rain delays, all the doubles ties were played next and Isla and Jasmine managed a good win against Sussex, and a close fought contest with Dorset. Martyna played with Jasmine in the last match v Kent too.

So after a very long weekend with rain delays and some of Hampshire & IOW’s top players missing, we were proud of our girls who worked very hard, and were eventually were placed fourth.
