School children from across the city of Portsmouth took part in the annual Years 3 & 4 tennis competition and festival this week.

Nearly 100 school children from primary schools throughout the city of Portsmouth met at the Priory Tennis Centre this week to experience the fun and excitement of tennis. For some it was their first experience of the game, whilst other had been coached throughout the term by the coaching teams at Portsmouth Tennis academy and Southsea Tennis Club.

Portsmouth School Sports Partnership has worked closely with the LTA this year. As well as running the competition and festival, the school sports partnership have also trained primary and secondary school teachers throughout the city, received free equipment for every school attending as well as the opportunity to train young leaders and competition organisers to assist with the growing participation of tennis within Portsmouth.

Simon Johnson, Tennis Development Manager for Hampshire & Isle of Wight said;

“It’s been great to work with Portsmouth School Sports Partnership this year, they’ve been very keen to get involved training teachers, up skilling coaches and providing new opportunities for those kids within the city. They also had great support this week from the Portsmouth Tennis Academy, whose team helped deliver a great competition and festival for everyone taking part.”
