Schools Tennis Reaches Climax

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Schools from across Hampshire & Isle of Wight have been competing over the last 12 weeks in the AEGON Schools event. In total 20 schools have been competing in the national league which allows schools to compete locally, with the winners advancing to regional then national finals. St Swithun’s school have impressed so far in the girls event whilst in the boys Kings School in Winchester top the table.

Elsewhere School Sports Partnerships throughout the County have been working with local clubs and coaches to run years 3&4 competitions for primary school children. At a recent event in Portsmouth, over 80 children arrived at the Priory Tennis Centre to experience tennis, some for the first time.

There’s also been space in the school timetable for School Sports Partnerships to take part in the annual years 7&8 competition. Last year over 60 secondary schools around the County took part in the event, and this year the number is set to grow. The winning school from each of the fourteen School Sport Partnerships will descend on the Totton & Eling Tennis Centre in the New Forest next week for the finals.
