The National Finals were held at Bolton Area on 14th-15th June and the Hampshire & IOW girls finished in 5th place overall, which was a great achievement.
It was an extremely enjoyable but also exhausting weekend and each member of the team gave their absolute best in a weekend full of top quality tennis.
The teams that we faced in our group were Staffordshire, Suffolk and Cornwall. We knew after seeing the team nominations that this was going to be a challenging group.
On Saturday we played Staffordshire and Suffolk in which we came up just short losing both ties 3-1. We came extremely close in both matches to taking them to a shootout but we lost both doubles in a third set match tie break.
On Sunday morning we played Cornwall in our last group match and we were victorious winning the tie 4-0.
This then set up our last match to play for 5th-6th place against Warwickshire. We were again successful beating Warwickshire 3-1.
Coming 5th in the national finals is something to be very proud of as we have never made the finals in the girls under 10 age group before. So a huge well done to Hannah Smith, Eliza Wheeler, Rina Hayamizu, Anna Vinnell and Isla Hignett.
Each of our five girls gave their absolute best and had a very enjoyable weekend and should be extremely proud of themselves.
I am an extremely proud captain and I couldn’t have asked any more from my team and couldn’t have asked to captain a nicer group of girls.
