On Sunday 25th March as part of the Sport Relief celebrations in Southampton’s Guildhall Square Allplay Tennis in Southampton was launched to the people of Southampton.
Allplay is the LTA’s national campaign to help more people play tennis and Allplay Tennis in Southampton is a project underpinned by the brilliant allplaytennis.com promoting local opportunities to local people, the user friendly free website helps people find local places to play, like minded individuals and now with offers to assist there has never been a better time to get on court. Over 25 new programmes, opportunities and promotions were launched on Sunday aimed at growing the sport and changing the culture of the sport in the City. Whether you want Cardio Tennis indoors, Cardio Tennis on a local park site, beginner coaching, disability tennis, Touch Tennis, competition and more it is now available within walking distance.
Allplay Tennis in Southampton was conceived in December 2011 and is driven by a working group made up of commercial clubs, local clubs, coaches, Southampton City Council, Solent University, volunteer bodies and Hampshire & IOW LTA representatives. The aim of the group is to grow the game in innovative and sustainable ways and begin to change the perception of the sport to ensure that anyone from any walk of life feels that there is something for them. The group will continue to work hard to develop new and innovative programmes to best service the people of Southampton and will be exploring how best to develop existing facilities to ensure that they are ell managed and sustainable to guarantee longevity of use.
Andy Trott, LTA Tennis Development Officer for the South West said “The working group have been fantastic to work with in the past 4 months, their attitude to growing the game in a collective manner is commendable and this new way of working to grow the sport is already opening up new opportunities across the City to better develop existing facilities. The launch will long live in the memories of all who attended and I feel went a long way to changing the culture of the sport across the City, tennis is for everyone, whatever ability, whatever age and is a game that can be enjoyed by the family at the same time, whatever you want from tennis is now on offer in Southampton.”
