18 & Under Boys: County Cup Report

The under 18 boys were in a very strong group 2a which was played at Redbridge in Essex.
We anticipated a very tough week on the courts due to the fact for a variety of reasons 5 of our top 8 were unable to play. Due to this we had to field a very young team that were quite inexperienced at this level.
Our team was as follows:- Takura Mlambo, Miles McDowall, Cem Ortel, Ricky Hernandez Tong, Taylor Vane, Maxton Cook and Liam Bisson with Mike Booth and Karim Aouichaoui as captains.
Our first match was against a very strong team from Dorset and unfortunately we were unable to win any rubbers with the closest match from Maxton who took his opponent to 3 sets.
The next match was against a strong team from Essex, a better result than the previous day, we still lost but by a score of 2-7 with a very good win for Miles at number 2 and an excellent doubles win by Miles and Takura at number 1.
The final day again was against a strong team from Middlesex. Unfortunately we were unable to win any singles rubbers so at 0-6 the tie was finished.
I thought all the lads showed a great team spirit and remained very positive throughout the weekend despite not getting a great deal to show for it in terms of wins, all the boys were exposed to a high level of tennis and hopefully now have an understanding of what they need to work on in preparation for next year.
