The Aegon 10U Girls County Cup was held over the weekend of 27th and 28th May and Hampshire & IOW were in Group C held at Thame TC.
The Team was: Lily Bebbington, Darcey Clarke, Isabelle Pycroft, Evangeline Howard.
This was a very difficult weekend for our under 10 girls. We faced four very good teams in Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire.
First up was Oxfordshire and we had Lily, Evie and Darcey playing the singles. These were very tough matches competing against players at a good national level. We were 2-1 down after the singles with Darcey picking up a well fought singles win. In the doubles our girls put up a great fight with Lily and Evie just missing out losing 13-11 in the third set tie break.
Next up was the enteral winning team Hertfordshire, again an extremely tough fixture. Lily, Evie and Isabelle were our singles line up. The girls fought hard but the competition was to much to ask and Hertfordshire took a 3-0 lead. Darcey and Isabelle teamed up for the doubles, but faced a very strong pair and Hertfordshire won the tie 4-0.
On day two we faced Buckinghamshire and Berkshire.
Again the experienced Berkshire team were too strong for our Hampshire & IOW girls winning the tie 3-1 with Darcey picking up her second singles win with another great performance.
The final match of the weekend was against Buckinghamshire and after the singles we were 2-1 down with a very good showing from Darcey winning comfortably. Lily and Darcey them teamed up and battled extremely well to win the doubles 10-4 in the third set tie break to take the match to a shootout. Again it was Lily and Darcey to play and the girls just came out on the wrong side of a 10-8 match tie break loss which meant Bucks took the victory.
I couldn't have asked for a nicer hard working group of players. All 4 girls gave it their all this weekend but ultimately the competition was too difficult to pick up a win.
It was a great eye opener for the players and parents to see the level of the national players and what needs to be done back in their training environments.
GREAT EFFORT GIRLS!
