There were some outstanding performances from Hampshire players last week at the Winter Grand Prix's being held in Sunderland and Bath. The competiiton is the highlight of the winter season and sees the top players from around the country competing.
Taro wins 18&U event
Taro Keens, who trains at the Bath High Performance Centre, received a wild card into the girls event having failed to enter on time. However, Taz, who lives in Southampton, won the event by beating Tiffany William in a three set final to walk away with 750 ranking points.
In the boys event Dan Cochraine, who also trains at the Bath HPC reached the final whilst Hampshire Tennis & Health Club member Nick Sayer reached the quarter finals. Both boys will be representing Hampshire in the upcoming 18&U County Cup.
Yannaros shines
With Bath Univeristy hosting the 16&U event, it was again the girls who showcased Hampshire tennis with Hampshire Tennis & Health Club member Alexia Yannaros reaching the quarter finals before being forced to withdraw injured. Ella Taylor, who trains primarily at the West Hants High Performance Centre and is coached by Mike Booth, reached the last 16 of the competition.
With some of the strongest juniors within the UK competing at the Winter Grand Prix the performances of Hampshire players were highly impressive.
