Report by Team Captin Sue Espley:
The Senior Ladies were playing in Wrexham, North Wales to contest the 3b division of Winter County Cup.
The team consisted of 3 new players Tegan Louw from Kingsley, Anya Still from Basingstoke and Oana Manole from Andover.
The whole team was:
- Lisa Radford
- Natalie Sayer
- Debbie Hale
- Hannah Crawford
- Tegan Louw
- Oana Manole
- Anya Still
- Sue Espley
The other counties in the division were:
- Northumberland
- Cheshire
- Derbyshire
Day 1 vs Derbyshire
The team for singles was: Lisa, Natalie, Debbie, Tegan, Oana and Anya
After the singles, we had really good wins from the new members of the team, Oana, Tegan and Anya, Lisa had a long match but lost in 3 sets.
The doubles pairs were: Lisa and Natalie, Oana and Tegan and Debbie and Anya.
After the singles we were 3 all, so needed to win 2 of the doubles to take the victory. All 3 matches were well contested, but Oana and Tegan and Lisa and Natalie both had really good wins to give the Hampshire team an overall 5-4 win.
Day 2 vs Northumberland
A small change to the team with Hannah coming into the singles and doubles, so the singles players were:
Lisa, Natalie, Tegan, Oana, Hannah and Anya.
We had some long singles matches, but fantastic wins from Anya, Hannah and Tegan again took us to the doubles 3-3.
The doubles players were: Lisa and Natalie, Debbie and Hannah and Oana and Tegan.
After a very exciting hour and a half, all 3 pairs managed to win which took our end of day result 6-3 to the Hampshire Team.
Day 3 vs Cheshire
Both counties had won both days, so we were playing for promotion.
The Hampshire team remained the same as yesterday:
The singles players were:
Lisa, Natalie, Tegan, Oana, Hannah and Anya.
The Cheshire singles players were all very solid, and there were some good matches, however Tegan and Lisa were able to take victories in 2 sets.
Going into the doubles we were 4-2 down, with all to play for.
The doubles players were: Lisa and Natalie, Debbie and Hannah and Oana and Tegan.
Sadly the Cheshire side managed to take the deciding rubber by winning against Oana and Tegan, with some very good doubles which gave Cheshire the overall victory of the group.
With such a young team, I was impressed with everybody playing with such passion and determination, which was really the main reason for the successes.
Well done team for managing to gain second position and staying in division 3.
