12U Boys County Cup - 2012

The team arrived for a tough weekend’s tennis. We started our matches against a strong Shropshire side, who beat all 3 of our players in singles, but we got an element of revenge with a strong doubles performance from Herbie and Matthew, winning 4-2 5-4. Second up was Staffordshire and although again we lost all 3 singles, we had two great performances in particular from Billy Wright who fought against a very high ranked player but in the end came up just short; 5-4 4-5 7-10, also Matthew fought hard but lost 11-9 in another closely fought match. Again we managed to win our doubles match this time finally winning a tie breaker 10-8.
Second day we had Alexander Maggs back for us and he made an immediate impact winning his first singles match. Herbie again came close going down 5-4 5-4. The doubles was far more straightforward and that took us into a tie breaker to see who won and saving 3 match points Alex and Herbie pulled it back to win 11-9. South Wales were convincing winners in all matches against us.
In the end we finished level on points with North Wales and Staffordshire, but due to our team’s fewer wins we finished 5th.
