BARNT GREEN SPORTS CLUB played host to British former No 1 and runner–up of the US Open, Greg Rusedski when he tried out and then opened the new artificial clay courts recently.
The LTA have helped with a grant of £62,000 and a loan of a similar amount for the club which now has added 3 artificial clay courts and floodlighting to two of the courts. The courts can be played on in the rain and together with the new floodlights the capacity for court usage has been greatly extended at the Margesson Drive club.
As Chairman of one of the areas leading sports clubs Martin Edwards commented that the courts are ‘unbelievably good quality and the money well spent’.
Barnt Green (an LTA Clubmark Club) has over 200 members, a thriving junior section and a team of fully licensed coaches – as well as excellent adult participation and representation in the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Slazenger League. The Barnt Green Ladies A team are frequent winners of the Division One League.
Greg was kept busy after his activities on court by presenting the prestigious LTA Meritorious Award to John Lomas of Evesham Rowing Club for over 30 years of dedicated volunteering at his local club.
