Boys Report
First match of the day saw the boys coming up against a very strong Notts side. There was a see-saw match for Felix Gill as he lost a mammoth first set tie-break 14-12, came back strong in the second set but eventually went down in a Championship tiebreak. Harry Friend and Noel Watters came out second best to two strong players and David Turner put in a strong consistent performance to get us a 4-2 4-1 victory, meaning we lost 3-1 overall against Notts. The second match saw us come up against Suffolk. The whole team put in commanding performances with Harry, David and Noel gaining comfortable wins and Felix, again liking the tie-break route, but this time for a good win. This meant a great 4-0 win for us. In our final match we came up against Cambridgeshire, the toughest team so far. Again for Felix and Harry this time we got two strong wins, both winning in championship tie-breaks with some top tennis 10-3 & 10-4 respectively. David and Noel both fought all the way but both came up just short meaning a 2-2 draw with Cambridgeshire.
Girls Report
The girls only had two matches as Suffolk couldn't field a team! First match we came up against Notts. Their team were full of top rated players. Lucy Austin came up against a very strong player, she fought really well showing her fighting spirit, but eventually fell short. Asena and Claudia both also fought hard but came up short against some powerful players. We had a great win for Sally Lewin beating a top player comfortably 4-1 4-0, a great win. In our final match we played Cambridgeshire, a team on paper way ahead of us on ratings and age. In a topsy turvy match Lucy managed to get the win 10-7 in championship tie-break, a great win as she was fighting the whole match and got her reward. Asena pulled out a consistent and strong minded performance to win 4-1 4-1. In our final two matches Sally and Claudia fought and scrapped hard, and were running all over the court, but the opponents had just too much power and we eventually lost both meaning we gained a creditable 2-2 draw.
We're waiting for the overall result for boys and girls currently to establish our league position.
Many thanks to all players and parents, a good team spirit and the players did the county proud with some great performances.
