For the second year in succession the Over 55 Men have managed to win Division 1 of the inter-county championships.
Lead by Phil Siviter and strongly supported by Nik Koehli, Roy Halfpenny, and Alan Purnell (captain) the team have this year beaten Cheshire, Devon, Staffs, West of Scotland and Bedfordshire. The team were also fortunate to be able to call (for one match each) on Peter Sturrock (over 60 captain) and John Clarke who had played all the matches in 2010.
Phil Siviter remained unbeaten all season but there was success throughout the team. One match in particular was memorable when Nik Koehli travelled from Bristol on the Saturday evening and he and Alan then went to Scotland and back in the day as well as winning the match 3.2. Nik’s 10/8 in the 3rd set win over the Scots No 1 (Russell Howat) was the key match. Nik then returned to Bristol ready for Monday work!! John Clarke and Roy Halfpenny made up the team on this occasion for what may have been the vital result of the season.
In 2010 the team lost the National finals to a strong Surrey team and now await details of the finals which are due to be played at Dudley in November.
