Corby 2013 Report – 12U events
Captain: Steve Barnett
Boys: Alex Maggs, Joseph Morris, Lewis Osbourne and Felix Gill
Girls: Kate Horsburgh, Kirsten Campbell-Ferguson, Katy Lewin and Imogen Looker
With a few last minute changes to the team our H&W 12U Corby team were the first full team to arrive at the venue ready for a promising day’s tennis.
Our first opponents were Nottinghamshire, with the boys winning two out of the four matches and Joseph Morris narrowly missing out on a win losing in a third set championship tie break. The girls showed some impressive form and demolished all of the opponents losing only three games in all the matches to claim victory.
We then took on the county of Suffolk and with an extremely high level of play our boys managed one win out of four matches, with Alex Maggs coming back from 3-2 down in the second set to win the championship tie break 10-8. The girls had a tough second round of matches, Kate Horsburgh and Kirsten Campbell-Ferguson winning their matches to put the team in good order for their third round against Cambridgeshire.
Cambridgeshire fielded an extremely good squad of players and although showing great effort the boys only won one of the four matches. Felix Gill, the youngest member of the team, had a great match to win 5-4(10-8), 5-4(7-4) an epic match to ensure more points on the table for the team. Alex Maggs again had a tough match against his opponent but just missed out on the win by 3 points in the third set tie break. Our girls produced some more great tennis to win three out of the four matches; Imogen Looker only just missed out on victory in a thrilling 3-5, 3-5 match.
With all the matches played the girls finished in 1st position in the group, an excellent result for the team and well deserved too. Unfortunately the boys finished in 4th place although 2nd, 3rd and 4th places were only divided by half a point. A huge well done to all the players for great effort and team support during the tough matches!
