HSBC Road to Wimbledon National Finals

Tuesday, August 20, 2013

Herefordshire & Worcestershire county finalists Kate Horsburgh, Oliver Nunn and one of the highest ranked runners-up, Kirsten Campbell-Ferguson, were invited to compete on the grass courts at the All England Club - SW19 in the HSBC Road to Wimbledon National Finals last week.

The finals of this 14U event has 64 boys and 64 girls competing in round robin boxes for places in the main knock out draw. Players are also offered an opportunity to play in a doubles event. The players get to meet HSBC Road to Wimbledon Ambassador, Tim Henman, have a guided tour of the grounds and a visit to the Wimbledon Museum

Kate Horsburgh progressed through her round robin box and lost to a higher rated player in the first round of the main draw.

Kirsten Campbell-Ferguson won one of her round robin matches and a match in the consolation draw and is eligible to compete again next year.

Oliver Nunn progressed through his round robin box only to meet the No 1 seed and eventual winner.

Oliver won his first round match in the doubles event as did Kate and Kirsten who teamed up together -they lost out to a local Warwickshire pair who were seeded 6.

Well done to all the players - keep an eye out for first-hand reports from the players themselves......
