Barnt Green Sports Club Open Day - 6th July 2013
Barnt Green Sports Club offers 4 sports to it members. These are Tennis, Squash, Badminton and table tennis. There is also a very active running and cycling club which uses the Club as its base and all participants are club members.
As such it was hoped to use the open day to promote all of the club activities and not just tennis. That said the focus really was to try and attract new tennis members. The Tennis section has 5 floodlit tennis courts – 3 new artificial clay and 2 acrylic.
Ahead of the day 2000 flyers were distributed around the local area and we used our 4 school links to advertise through school newsletters and book bag schemes. We advertised in the local press and magazines and put posters up where we could. Facebook and the clubs website were also used to promote the event.
The open day coincided with ladies final day at Wimbledon and we hoped the tennis fever would bring people out. It was a baking hot day and the only negative being the fact it clashed with the final British Lions Rugby match.
We set the courts up with 2 left for free play, 1 with a service speed gun, 1 with a ball machine and 1 with the tennis fun factory, mini nets and automatic volley machine. The coaching team were available to offer advice and cakes and refreshments were provided.
We had some special membership offers for the day (10 to 20% off) and also offered trial memberships for 2 months. We had some give aways to hand out courtesy of the H&W club forum. We also promoted the summer tennis camps.
Approximately 120 people attended the open day and we gained 14 new members, half of which on a trial basis. It is also likely a few more juniors will be joining. In a worst case scenario the trial memberships covered the cost of the day. We will however be trying to encourage them to join fully as best we can.
I am not sure if that constitutes a successful day or not, it’s difficult to gauge but it certainly wasn’t a waste of time. Total costs amounted to £300 and we are lucky the club looks very good now to how it did 3 years ago. If we can turn 50% of the trial members into full members then we would overall be pleased.
